Room update

Posted on: Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 in: Adoption, Kid Stuff

Short entry! I’ve been doing some more in Parker’s room. I put a bookcase in his closet and thanks to Chanukah it already has about 10 books to explore! I also put up more bedding and the crib is now complete. I’ll post a picture soon.
All my paperwork has been sent off to my agency [...]

I’m certified!

Posted on: Thursday, December 21st, 2006 in: Adoption, Miscellaneous

I got my dossier back from the state today. I am now state certified. Now, I need to be authenticated and translated, so I have sent my dossier off to my agency. They will send it to the Vietnamese Embassy in California for authentication and translation.
Last night we celebrated a night of Chanukah at my [...]

Chanukah and My Ankle

Posted on: Monday, December 18th, 2006 in: Adoption, Celebrations and Holidays, Miscellaneous

Friday, December 15 was the first night of Chanukah. The whole family went over to my parents’ house and had dinner and the little kids all opened gifts. It was fun, and the food was good. It was funny because when we lit the menorah they kids thought they were supposed to blow out the [...]

I-171H

Posted on: Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 in: Adoption

I got my I-171H in the mail yesterday! It came early, way to go Cleveland processing office! You guys are awesome.
I made the obligatory round of phone calls to friends and family, and faxed off a copy to my agency this morning. Now the wait for a referral begins.

Taxes and stuff

Posted on: Thursday, December 7th, 2006 in: Adoption, Kid Stuff

I’ve been trying to figure out my taxes with and without child and the various things that I will or won’t be able to deduct in the future (like childcare). It’s all so complicated that even though I think I have it right, I don’t trust myself to have done it correctly. There’s so many [...]

Butt kicking, childcare, cards

Posted on: Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 in: Kid Stuff, Miscellaneous

We got our butt’s kicked Sunday at soccer. It was our worst loss to date, hands down. One reason is because the other team was really good, and also we were short 3 or 4 people. None of our female players were able to rotate at all during the game, so they got tired very [...]

Fingerprinted, wait some more

Posted on: Saturday, December 2nd, 2006 in: Adoption, Miscellaneous

I got FBI fingerprinted on Tuesday. While I was there I asked one of the people in the department to check and make sure my file was complete. He checked and even looked over the home study a bit and said I should have my 171H within three weeks. So, I should have it before [...]

Nice, long weekend

Posted on: Saturday, November 25th, 2006 in: Adoption, Kid Stuff, Miscellaneous

Thanksgiving was lots of fun this year. I went over to my Mom and Dad’s around 10AM and helped my mom cook and hung out with my sister, who is in from college. My brother and his family came over around 3:30 and we ate around 5:30. Then my cousin and his wife and daughter [...]

Dossier, Fingerprints, Parker’s Room

Posted on: Monday, November 20th, 2006 in: Adoption, Kid Stuff

I FINALLY got my fingerprinting appointment, for the week after Thanksgiving. That 171H is SO close now!
I got the go ahead to start on my dossier from my agency. I should have all the paperwork (except the 171H)Â done before Thanksgiving, then I just need to get it authenticated and certified.
Yesterday, I bought the crib [...]

Themed Room

Posted on: Monday, November 20th, 2006 in: Kid Stuff

I was reluctant at first but I’ve given in. I’ve selected the “Sea Life” theme for Parker’s room. It’s very cute and goes right along with one of my loves, the ocean and the myriad of life contained therein. Jacques Cousteau was my first hero and is still a hero to me, so the ocean [...]
