Days of The Dragon

A Full Weekend

“Look Dad, this says we are pre-approved for a $400,000 second mortgage! And, it’s only $23 a month. Can we, please?!”

Actually that is Parker destroying the confirmation that I paid my lifetime alumni fees in full for Ohio State. Glad those payments are over!

On Sunday, Parker and I and Grandma and Grandpa went to the county fair. It was fun; Parker enjoyed the animals, especially the calves, which were really adorable. I think he may have thought they were larger, smellier versions of Lexi. We stayed at the fair for about an hour and half (it’s a small fair!). But, it was fun.

Saturday was my youngest niece Samantha’s 1st birthday party. My brother and sister-in-law had all the family and a couple friends over for a pool party at their house. It was nice, Parker enjoyed playing with his cousins…even though it was probably a bit loud for him at times, as Caitlyn and Lauren (ages 4 and 3) are currently taking great joy from running all around and screaming for no reason.

On Sunday night, the proverbial hell descended, in the form of the most gorgeous little boy from Vietnam, Parker An! Granted, it wasn’t his fault at all…it’s the dreaded ear infection. His first E.I. and hopefully his last. Actually, I am *way* exaggerating; the only hellish part was that neither of us slept much. Parker hasn’t really cried much at all, he was just a little cranky at times and wanted to be held more. So, either this has been a mild ear infection, or he’s pretty resistant to ear pain. Sunday night Parker was up almost every hour from 8 PM until 5 AM…most of the time he slept he was perched on me, in my bed or on the couch. I got about 3 or 4 hours of sleep all night. In the morning I took his temperature and it was 101.4. I had my mom watch him; I figured he’d be much happier feeling crappy with Grandma and Grandpa than at daycare. I left work early and took him to the doctor. Monday night was better, the Tylenol at least kept the fever down. He was up maybe 3 or 4 times and I got about 5 hours of sleep. He was pretty much fine today, playing and being his near normal self, though with less of an appetite. So far tonight is going like normal, asleep at about 7:20, awake at about 8:20 and back to sleep by 8:30. I think the worst (which wasn’t that bad, really) is over.

I’ve begun to use Vietnamese words intermixed with English. I plan on keeping that going until Parker is talking. For instance, sometimes I’m “Daddy (Da-Da)” and sometimes I’m “Ba”…a kitty is sometimes “cat” and sometimes “(con) meo”. So far I’m doing this with 5 things, partly because I don’t want to overwhelm him and partly because those are the ones I know how to pronounce correctly in Vietnamese. We’ve got daddy, cat, hello, dog, and car so far.

Enough for now, I’ve got to go continue reading Harry Potter 7.
