Next Word Please

Parker is picking up words like crazy right now! He can say only a few (bye-bye, dada, ball, duck) – but he knows many more and the context to use them in. Like, when I was leaving daycare today, he clearly said “bye-bye” and waved, with no prompting. He waves when you say hi, hello, or xin chà o (pronounced kind of like “seen chjow”, which is hello in Vietnamese). His understanding of vocabulary is really blossoming right now – and, he loves to shake his head yes and no to let you know he understands. Actually, he only shakes his head “no” – for “yes”, it’s more like his whole body rocks back and forth. He is great at doing what you ask him, like giving you something or putting toys in a bucket, pet the dog, etc. I know that won’t last, so I’m enjoying it now.

He will look for the dog when I say it in English or Vietnamese. He also has cat down in both languages. I got a DVD from Mandy’s Moon that has counting in both English and Vietnamese, which I think will be good for him once he’s 2 or 3.

On the walking front, he’s pretty much got that down, with a caveat – when he wants! And, he seems to rarely want to walk. I know that will change, and probably pretty soon – but, right now he will not take more than a few steps at once and that takes coaxing. It’s obvious that he’s still getting up the confidence to just make the switch.

He is enjoying solid foods more and more. Right now he is getting one bottle during the day and one before bed. I don’t plan on switching him to milk anytime real soon – it just doesn’t have the nutrition that formula does. He likes pretty much everything. He enjoys shrimp, lobster, and chicken if cut up small enough. He hasn’t had beef. He likes crackers and cheerios, as well as dried fruit, bananas, canned green beans, peas, and carrots.

He enjoys splashing around in the bath tub, and even seems to like getting his teeth brushed – weird! Again, I’m sure these things will change as he gets older.

He loves to squeeze himself into small spaces. Give him a toy container or his wagon and he will invariably get into it, and often can’t get out because he’s squeezed himself in so tight.

I pulled some video off my camera last night, so I am hoping to post a clip this weekend, finally. The one of him trying to spin the dreidel is really cute.
