Lychees
I stopped by the local Vietnamese market in Akron to buy some rice, and they had fresh, ripe lychees - quả vải in Vietnamese. They are so good – easy to peel, and juice just pops out when you pierce the skin. They are very sweet, and I think I got Parker An hooked – he kept asking for more! Not sure what the usual price is for an exotic fruit like this, but it was $6 a pound – they were grown in Hawaii. I think I remember paying maybe a dollar or less for the same amount in Viet Nam.

I love lychee. They sell them in a can too, but the ones I’ve had in Vietnam are the best. I’ve always been told that if you eat too many you won’t sleep well, but I think it’s worth it.
Enjoy your lychee!

Oh my gosh! I just found them in Texas for the first time in three years! Lychee were my most favorite snack in the summer in NYC. I paid about the same last weekend, but yours look like they were a little better quality than the ones I had this week. Still good eats though!

They’re $1.99/lb in SoCal.
