Parker Update

Been a while since I’ve put up a Parker update…he is 22 months old.

  • He can now count 1-10 in Vietnamese on his own. He can almost do it in English, but three, four and five are tough
  • “My” and “mine” have become regular parts of his vocabulary, thankfully, at this point he doesn’t get upset if you tell him no, it isn’t yours.
  • He gets frustrated more easily, which is partly just because he’s almost 2 and partly because he wants to do more than he easily can
  • He tries to say almost everything I say. His speaking skills are really impressive for his age.
  • He’s become an expert with utensils and can even eat yogurt with a spoon without too much mess. He also shows an interest in chop sticks, but no luck using them as intended.
  • He’s still loving pictures, and is always eager to name everyone he can in family photos. He’s also got down who belongs to whom. Like if you mention “Angela”, he says “Marc” – they’re married.
  • He is very interested in the computer and will bring me the mouse from my office a couple times a day. He loves when I show him videos of trains or boats on YouTube.
  • Still eats great – loves veggies (especially broccoli), fruits, dried fruit, fish, eggs, nuts, rice, noodles, chicken, waffles, shrimp, and lots more. Has still not had red meat.
  • Really likes Elmo from Sesame Street, the show Big Big World, and the show Sid the Science Kid – the only shows he is usually allowed to watch at home. Still likes the Vietnamese kids videos, too.
  • Recognizes Obama and the Obama logo and says “Obama!”
  • Plays a game at bedtime where he likes to switch pillows with me and will lay his head directly on my head if I don’t give him my pillow or switch sides of the bed.
  • Loves to look at books, but still is more into simply looking at the pictures and saying what things are than in having me read the actual story.
  • Asks me to sit next to him when he wants me to play.
  • He has finally gotten most of his colors straightened out. It used to be that most things were blue, but now he’s got blue, red, yellow, green, white all figured out. He’s still confusing pink and purple sometimes.
  • Has started taking a real interest in kitchen things like pots and pans, silverware, and cooking. I am planning on getting him a play kitchen for Chanukah.
  • Likes to dance to some music.
  • Is very interested in candles and fire – I’m sure he will love his little menorah that grandma is going to get him this year.
  • Likes for me to draw him buses and trains over and over again!
  • Enjoys running around the house while I pretend to chase him!
  • Cracks up if you let him tickle you and way overreact to it – sometimes falls down laughing at this game.
  • If he gets an ouch, I am the only one he wants – even grandma isn’t good enough for ouches.
  • When he gets an ouch and wants me to kiss it, I have to kiss both hands and feet, too – even if the ouch is on his head. It’s really cute.

Well, I guess that’s enough for now. We’re both excited for Thanksgiving, Parker An’s 2nd birthday, and Chanukah. Should be a fun couple of months!
