Don’t Lose Your Online Photos

I have a friend whose photos are being held hostage! Ouch – Digital Railroad has shut its…servers. They are a photo hosting company, similar to Flickr, but serving professionals, etc.
So, all those people no longer have access to all their photos!
It’s just a reminder to those who use online storage for photos, email, documents, etc…to always keep a backup on your own computer or CD/DVD.

I had the same problem with Yahoo Photos when I moved (I used Yahoo Photos thru my old email tied up with my former home DSL line).
Where are you going to store your online photos now? Just curious.

Thankfully, I don’t use online photo storage. I have my own web hosting account and only upload the images that I use on my blog to that. Everything else I keep safe at home.

Hopefully you kept local copies? So sorry…I always encourage people that take a lot of photos to invest in an external hard drive (they’re quite cheap these days) and/or make multiple copies (CDs/DVDs) of their photos and give a copy to relatives NOT living with them.

Thankfully, it wasn’t me that was affected by this, it was a friend I know through a photography site. It just prompted me to post about it so others would remember that once you put it online, never know what might happen to it!
