Blood!
Today we had our two year anniversary visit with the adoption clinic to check up on Parker An’s health and development. The developmental specialist says that cognitively he’s at 33-36 months, he’s 28 months old – so a tad bit ahead of average – it actually surprised me, I thought he was pretty much average for his age, but the specialist and grandma both agree that he’s more like a 3 year old than a 2 1/2 year old. We also met with the awesome adoption psychologist on staff in case we had any issues in that area to discuss – I didn’t, so we just chatted about ways to talk about his family in Viet Nam, integrating Vietnamese cultural aspects into our family, etc. All’s clear in the health department, too.
While we were there a family with a two year old girl from Guatemala was there, and then a family with two elementary age girls from Russia came in, and then a family with a newly adopted sibling pair from Russia – the kids spoke little English, so a translator was there to help. Pretty neat!
It was a long day (9AM – 1PM), and Parker had a great nap afterward before our final appointment at 2:40 in the afternoon.
He did have several vials of blood drawn just for normal tests to make sure all the internals are functioning as they should be. I had the nurse pretend to draw my blood first and then have Parker kiss my ouch so he’d see that it only hurt a bit. It worked! He didn’t freak out and barely flinched when she stuck him. As she was pulling out 4 syringes of blood, Parker wanted to know what it was and why it was red – lol!
After that she gave him a new matchbox car for being such a good boy – I never got a brand new car when I went to the doctor – times have changed!
Here’s a picture of his dinosaur bandage – Band-Aids are so old school.
