Written By: Jonathan on October 13, 2009 No Puffs of Dragon Fire (Comments)

I need some help from my Vietnamese readers. I am trying to get together a list of classifiers in Vietnamese. Below is what i have so far, am I missing any common ones? I’m gonna have a couple more posts like this as time goes on and I try to hone some parts of my learning process.

  • con – animals, children
  • quả – spherical things , fruits (singular)
  • trái – fruit (multiple)
  • cái – inanimate objects (like chair, table, cup, etc)
  • chíêc – inanimate objects (shoe, hat, watch, etc)
  • cây – plants, trees
  • quyển and cuốn – books
  • ngôi – houses and short buildings (ngôi nhà)
  • tờ – sheets of things (like sheet of paper or newspaper)
  • hình – shapes
