Posted on: Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 in: Adoption, Home Life, Parenting, Travel

This weekend I am going to Columbus for Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Parker and I are going to the Columbus Asian Festival with my sister and her boyfriend. I am staying on the OSU campus at the Blackwell hotel, and I can’t wait to do two things (besides the Asian Festival) - walk around [...]

The Other Orphanages

Posted on: Monday, May 12th, 2008 in: Adoption, Travel, Vietnam

One year ago today was the day before I’d go meet my son-to-be for the first time. This was the day I arrived in Da Nang, from Sai Gon. I had the privilege to visit two other orphanages that my agency works in. Here are a few pictures from that day.
I was really touched by [...]

Posted on: Friday, May 9th, 2008 in: Adoption, Travel, Vietnam

Last year I was about to leave Cleveland for the most awesome journey I could ever imagine. On May 9, 2007 I left for Viet Nam - for my then son-to-be. Some pictures I took while at the various airports that I stopped at from Cleveland to Sai Gon.
The two posts I made last year [...]

Flights to Viet Nam

Posted on: Monday, January 28th, 2008 in: Travel, Vietnam

Vietnam Airlines is a little closer to implementing flights from LA to Saigon.
Every flight I had on Vietnam Airlines was great - never late, really good service, clean, newer planes, etc.

How I Miss Thee, Vietnam

Posted on: Friday, October 5th, 2007 in: Travel, Vietnam

I don’t really know the point of this posting, I’m just kind of rambling on about a couple of things that stood out to me during my trip to Vietnam.
I miss Vietnam; not just like I wish I could visit Halong Bay again or that I’d really like to buy some souvenirs or eat some [...]

Pitaya - The Fruit of the Dragon

Posted on: Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 in: Food, Miscellaneous, Travel, Vietnam

If you talk to most anyone from the USA or a European nation that has visited Vietnam, invariably one thing they will note is the amazing abundance and selection of fresh fruits and vegetables available throughout the country, both in small grocery stores and more impressively in the many open-air markets.
In particular, many visitors take [...]

Ramblings on Recent Items

Posted on: Friday, August 31st, 2007 in: Home Life, Miscellaneous, Parenting, Travel

Just some recent things I’ve run across that I wanted to briefly comment on.

The whole lead paint on everything from China issue. While I completely agree that lead is harmful to animals and should definitely not be anywhere near children’s toys, I have to wonder why all the blame is on China. Don’t get me [...]

Back to Columbus

Posted on: Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 in: Home Life, Travel

This past weekend I went to Columbus with my parents and my brother’s family. We went because my sister was graduating from Ohio State U, which is also where I graduated from!
I always enjoy going back to Columbus, it is without a doubt the best city in Ohio. I love taking a ride around campus, [...]

Posted on: Thursday, July 5th, 2007 in: Adoption, Miscellaneous, Travel

I am still working on my travel tips post, but here is my packing list that I used for my trip to VN. I added some post-trip notes to help show what was used and what just took up space.
Click here to see the packing list in Excel format, I may update it on occasion [...]

Vietnam Hotel Redux

Posted on: Friday, June 29th, 2007 in: Adoption, Miscellaneous, Travel

Here is the first post about my travel experience to VN…more to follow.
In Vietnam, I stayed at the following hotels:
Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City
The Rex - The night of May 12th. The Rex is ok in my book, nothing great. It badly needs to be renovated and updated. It’s not bad, it’s clean, the staff are [...]
